Day 13: Tuesday, April 3 I'd say I was completely fine. It was like common tonsillitis. As Dr. Kirt guaranteed, this will be my last tonsillitis. I went to the Borough clinic for my follow up check-up. Dr. Kirt said all were good. Oh yeah, if you only knew Kirt for the past week haha! I was delighted to see him. I felt safe in his hands. God unquestionably picked this specialist for me. He asked me to come back in a month. As a submissive patient, I will. Guys, don't be scared. My experience may be different from yours. I have heard a lot of stories that didn't have to go through so much pain. Just follow the medication as prescribed by your pharmacist. I did not. I chose not to take a pain reliever during my first few days. I was wrong. I should have known that my doctor knows better. So if after 1st, 2nd or 3rd opinion you were told that tonsillectomy is a must, then it's a must. Don't be too dubious. Nevertheless, pray to God. He will grant you with...

Day 12: Monday, April 2 I woke up okay. The pain went down to 2/10. I ate nothing in the morning. I had to go to work. I promised my manager that I will be in the office tonight. I claimed my healing now - I knew Jesus would take good care of me. I ate Goodah Goto Classic for dinner. It was delicious, sooo yummy. A bowl of goto sustained me all throughout my shift. Jesus sustained me. I took Dolfenal, just 1 caplet. I missed work. Tomorrow, I will see Dr. Kirt for my follow up check-up. My shift would end by 6am. Today, things were almost normal... I thank the Lord.

Day 11: April 1, Sunday Around 1am, the pain was intolerable. I remember my Dolfenal, I must take at least one tonight. The pain was not mitigated immediately, I just prayed that this would be the last night that I had to go through this. Funny. I never thought pain would be so over me - oh tonsillectomy, you really got me! I set the alarm 4:30am, I needed to be in church by 8:30am. I didn't know what happened, but I just didn't hear the alarm. And yes, thank You Lord for the pain. It woke me up at 5:30am. I didn't want to be so reliant on drugs, yet I knew God created someone to make Dolfenal for me. Yes Lord, thank You for using human means to care for my health. To this day, I ate a lot! I had mushroom soup and mashed potato for lunch, then I had bimsu at Hobing for snacks, and ate Goto Classic at Goodah for dinner. All these, my throat bore. Thank You, Jesus. Day 10: Saturday, March 31 The pain woke me up twice in the middle of the night. I didn’t get it. I drank a lot of water before going to bed. The pain was too much to bear. Biogesic was not at all helping. It took an hour before I managed to go back to sleep after my second attack. I woke up late, around 10am. Nanay bought me taho and sopas , yay! I sooo love taho . I finished it. Then I tried if sopas would be nice to my throat. Not so bad. Praise God for soft foods! Kids were around. Oh kids: there's Curt, the eldest; Chloe who will turn 5 next Saturday; and Cielo, the youngest. And you know, kids... Kids... They are adorable and lovely and fun to be with. Yet, from time to time I had to shout hahaha! Grrrr... I enjoy being with them. Kids therapy, I love that. I fed them, made sure they slept in the afternoon, played with them, danced and sang (with a very low voice). I totally forgot the pain of last night. I knew I would go through the same pain again tonight, yet ...

Day 9: March 30, Friday I woke up hungry. I got up, went to the kitchen and sipped apple juice. Then I continued sleeping at the couch. I had to wake up at 8am to take my last pill of antibiotics. Today, swallowing was a lot easier. Still painful though, let's say 4/10. My ears no longer hurt as much as it did a couple of days ago. Things were getting better. Praise God! Nanay brought me 3 tablets of biogesic, I had not taken any as of 1pm. Scabs were starting to fall off, my tongue was still whitish, my braces missed my dentist... It was 3pm when Nanay called us for a late lunch. I could smell my favorite lucky me pancit canton. Why o why?! It's soft, and not spicy, I could give it a shot. I had to take a pain killer first. When I chew, the pain was getting into my ears and had gotten into my head. I ate still, haha! How can I say NO to pancit canton?! Of course, cold apple juice on the side to help me swallow. I finished one full glass of apple juice, and maybe fi...

Day 8: Thursday, March 29 Around 4am, the pain woke me up again... I tried to go back to sleep, yet I couldn't, so I was forced to take a pain killer. It lasted for about an hour - I'd say 7/10... I read my Bible, prayed and around past 5am, I got back to sleep. Praise God. I woke up 9am. It's too late, I was scheduled to take my antibiotic at 8am. I knew I had to drink water again, and eat... After about 30 minutes of staying in my bed, I decided to get up and have some champurado . I had maybe 3 tablespoons. Apple juice and finally, I took my antibiotic. Still painful, yet bearable. I got it, I must drink water and eat to get better. It did hurt, yet I had to. I felt the relief minutes after drinking water, even without pain killer. I haven't taken any since I woke up. I was trying not to. At 8pm, I had my 2nd to the last antibiotic. I watched movies on Netflix before going to bed...

Day 7 - Wednesday, March 28 The pain was 6/10. Much better than yesterday. I took biogesic . I had a stomachache, because of my antibiotic maybe. I sipped apple juice for breakfast. I tried not to take meds to see if it got better. Hmnn so far so good until 1:30pm. My brother dropped by with ice cream - ehem coffee crumble... I just couldn't say NO to that... I ate ice cream, I got rid of the nuts and chocolate sprinkles. I also ate a few teaspoons of leche flan. I had apple juice again, and my sister cooked champurado , I had maybe 5-6 tablespoon. That was enough to sustain me for the rest of the day. I had to eat again before taking my antibiotic at 8pm. The pain was ranging from 5-8 this day. I knew it was healing. Before 8pm, I had 3 tablespoons of champurado again, sipped apple juice and drank half glass of water. Then I took my antibiotic. I planned of not going to work this week. Day 6 - Tuesday, March 27 Since I felt really okay last night, I rendered overtime at work until 7am (my shift was 9pm-6am), took a nap and woke up at 8:30am. Yey! I went to CCF Eastwood for Nadene's surprise! Herald and Lester bought food for the ladies - me, Jayzel and of course, Nadene. I tried eating, it felt normal. I had ice cream, chocolate cake, belly Bangus and spaghetti. I didn't try to eat Bicol express because it's spicy, I was afraid it might sting my throat. I also didn't eat rice. I got home at around 1:30pm. I freshened up and went to my nephew's graduation ceremony, to which my sister works as a teacher and was the program host that day. Then we went to KFC to have some snacks as a family - my brother Ato, Sharon, the kids: Amber, Ayah, and Curt of course, who just graduated, Nanay and Tatay. Day 5: March 26, Monday Pain was almost none. I knew I could go back to work. I felt so okay, or so I thought. I stayed in my room whole day to rest. I couldn't sleep so I took a shower early and went to my office, napped for about an hour then, shift started. I worked as if nothing happened, business as usual except that I was not talking. I had to eat for fast healing, but maybe not today. Voice rest at work. I attended no meetings at all. My team had been very considerate of me. They behaved. Oh, I love my team. Tomorrow would be Nadene's surprise birthday c/o my breakTime Core family. I must be there. After that would be my nephew's graduation. I wouldn't wanna miss it, too. And so...

Day 4 - Sunday, March 25   I was about to go home! Pain went up to 5/10. Still okay, but whew! Nadene processed my papers, I paid 135php for miscellaneous. Intellicare paid about 100k while Philhealth covered almost 30k of my hospital bills. I praise God for HMOs. Herald drove me home, with our friend Dioswa. I really thanked the Lord! I had everything I needed from start to end of my hospitalization. Nanay cooked pancit for my friends while my sister made them corn shake. Pain left my throat and I managed to have a good night sleep. I got 3 meds left: antibiotic for 5 more days every 12 hours, biogesic for 2 more days every 6 hours and pain killer for 2 more days. The meds were not that expensive: antibiotic may cost 42-43php if branded, I bought the generic co-amoxiclav and paid only 32php per tablet. Biogesic is only 4php each. Day 3 - Saturday, March 24   Everyone had to go. Ministry day - breakTime in CCF Eastwood. I was alone in the morning. I cleaned the room. I took a shower. I prepared Nadene’s food. I was a busy rodent lol. I studied (currently taking up Systematic Theology with my church friends) for our finals, read the Bible, prayed, napped, ate ice cream, hmnn and lots of ice cream! Pain was just okay until my nurse told me that all meds, I will have to take orally. Hmnn, not soooo okay with the idea but again, choice-less! It's not as if meds through IV don't hurt, they do, too. Pain reliever and antibiotic really were painful when injected through my veins. From 1-10, pain in swallowing went a little higher to 4... still tolerable though... Dr. Kirt was out today. Day 2 - Friday, March 23 Emji came in after her shift at around 2am. She stayed with me. I let her sleep because she had to work again the next day. She bought me a Gatorade and 4 plain vanilla ice cream from McDonald's. My nurse told me I had to drink water and eat at least ice cream. I didn’t want to, because of the pain. Yet, I knew I must, and so I did. That pain was the worst so far in my life. I never had this when my gall bladder was removed via open surgery. It was even worse than a toothache. Nothing compares haha! Yet, still manageable. Oh Lord, thank You for the gift of perseverance. Dr. Kirt visited me again and told me that, if everything would be okay, I could go home on Sunday. I couldn’t forget his ring tone when someone called him, “ despacito ”... naks! Sorry haha, can't help it. I really wanted to share it! Day 1 - Thursday (March 22, the day of my surgery) After the surgery, they woke me up. They (nurses or doctors maybe, I was sedated so I don’t know) asked me to lay on my left and stop coughing to avoid bleeding. I knew I was coughing but I didn’t know why. I remembered the tube in my mouth, I tried to bite it but it was no longer there. Yehey! I could hardly breathe, at the back of my tongue was full of saliva yet I couldn’t swallow. It was so painful, still tolerable though. I stayed in the recovery room until around 5pm - I couldn’t sleep. I wanted to go back to my room and read my Bible. I felt like staying in the recovery room for hours was a waste of time haha! Stubborn. But of course, I submitted, aside from me having no choice, because they are nurses and doctors and they know better. I fully understand that God uses human means such as them to care for my health. I don't know much about medical stuff, I took up BS ECE in college, and I am currently working as a supervisor in a BPO company. So pardon my innocence in this blog. I'm writing this for the sake of those who will and who are going through the healing process after a tonsillectomy. Hope this helps! I was scheduled to undergo tonsillectomy 10am of March 22nd. According to the doctors I consulted, having tonsillitis of more than twice a year isn’t normal - mine used to be more than twice a MONTH . Also, year after year of my APE in my workplace, I had been told that my tonsils were bigger than normal, which may be the reason why I was snoring and had difficulty in breathing most of the time. Of course, they talked to me in jargon. Don't worry, I would talk in a way easy for someone like me who isn’t good with medical terms understand it better.
